Overview

The Ministry has the responsibility to provide support to the industrial sector, including craft, to enable sustainable participation in a liberalized global economy as well leading national partner in all energy management facets. Furthermore, it provides information to potential investors and in consequence receives, appraises, approves investment projects as well as any other investment related issues.
In addition ensure that the government makes full use of the information and communications technology in delivery of its services and which creates the necessary framework (policies, legislation & regulations) that allows the full potential of that technology to be harnessed nationally for the benefit of the country.

Major Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the development of legislations, regulations and policies pertaining to telecommunication and related services.
  • The implementation of legislations, regulations and policies pertaining to telecommunication and related services.
  • The planning and management of radio communication resources (e.g. domain names, frequency, numbers, etc.).
  • Assist with identifying potential local partners, matching them for joint ventures and also assist with the identification and selection of site’s and business premises.
  • Liaises with local and international stakeholders on issues related to industrial development
  • Conducts site visits and encourages firms to improve their production techniques and capacities, product development, quality of products and pricing
  • Manages land under the ownership of the state in accordance with the State Land and River Reserves (SLRR) Act Cap 228
  • It provides geo-Informatics services training and support to users and promotes the concepts of Geo-Informatics services through workshops, seminars, demonstration and publications
  • Assesses planning applications and conveys approval. In so doing it ensures compliance with planning legislation.
  • Investigates alleged breaches of planning control and enforces action including court proceeding and appeals where appropriate.
  • Undertakes feasibility studies, inception, designs, implements and monitors housing construction projects.
