Seychelles artists come together to showcase exhibition “Islanders in Progress”

Seychelles seen as a blaze of colours with its fascinating fauna and flora has been captured in a collection of paintings mounted by artists from the islands of Praslin and La Digue. “Islanders in progress’’ bring together a pool of talented artists from these two inner islands to exhibit their paintings in the gallery at Kenwyn House.

 

Opening the exhibition, Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture said that the exhibition “opens a new outlet for artists to sell their master piece and to showcase their artworks to those who are passionate about such works’’.

 

“Islanders in Progress is a continuation of the exhibition organised on Praslin by the National Arts Council during last year’s Arts Festival.  It is important for me to congratulate Kenwyn House for hosting this exhibition, and to give the our artists from Praslin and La Digue an outlet to showcase their artworks. It’s heartening to see islanders coming together to showcase their passion of painting’’ said Minister St.Ange

 

The collection of paintings forming part of this latest exhibition bares the signatures of artists such as Alain Barreau, Daryl Kirchner, Cyril Jean and Alain Marie to name but a few whose artworks are also on display in the gallery of Rita Morel, one of reputed Seychelles artist residing on the Island of Praslin. Her own collection of paintings is also on display in the “Islanders in Progress’’ exhibition.

 

Minister Alain St.Ange congratulated Rita Morel for  investing and in devoting her time to set up this latest exhibition saying that she is  “not just an artist, but a devoted member of the community who continues to rally artists together’’.  

 

Minister St.Ange concluded by wishing the “Islander’s success with the exhibition” stating that he “hopes to have the pleasure to witness many more exhibitions from artists of inner Islands”
